JUST WHAT IS THIS COLORED BOX THINGY!??? ;{
The Society of DOOM's MULTI COLORED BOX is a bi-product of the cold war and
phone phreaking. It's main but not limited to purpose is , RIP-OFF MABELL.
IT is a fully programmable/flexable/affordable Dual Tone MULTI-FREQUENCY
Generator capable of generating any boxing inband signalling tones. The
test software contains code to produce SILVER,RED,GREEN and BLUE BOX TONES.
It's all based around the BASIC STAMP ][ put out by PARALLAX. This PIC
based micro computer can be programmed in basic along with its special
commands that generate 1 or 2 sinwaves at any frequency between 0 & 32000
hertz for any duration. The BS][ has 16 i/o lines and the SOD MCBOX only
uses six of them. So It's a very expandable device. Another application
or addition would be to add a touch tone decoder. The BS][ can also talk
directly to an rs232 port though one or more of its I/O lines. Contained
here are the plans for one of many applications of the BS][.... Have PHUN!

The BASIC STAMP ][ made by PARALLAX can be purchased from DIGIKEY.
THE BASIC STAMP][ or BS2 costs $49. It is a 20mhz microcomputer contained
in a 24pin DIP (DUAL INLINE PLASTIC IC PACKAGE). It's PIC based and
contains a 4kbyte eeprom. The STAMP2.EXE programming SOFTWARE can be ftped
from the NET: ftp.parallaxinc.com (Also contained with this ZIP)
The BASIC STAMP ][ programming software takes commands in a basic
like language and compiles then into a tokenized PIC instruction set and
uploads it to the BS2's 4k eprom non-volatile memory,power down won't erase
it,unless reprogrammed. The interface cable is RS232 serial and connects
directly between the PC COM PORT and pins 1-4 of the BS2. To run
the programming software on comport1 type STAMP2 /1 at the DOS prompt.
2 for 2 etc. Before programming, the unit must also be powered.
A 9volt battery will work well with + on pin 24 and - on pin 23.
Here is a pinout for the programming cable. I suggest getting a 24 or
28 pin IC socket and soldering the wire from the serial port to the socket.
I do not suggest soldering directly to the BS2. Always use a socket!!

DOWNLOADING: WITH THE STAMP2 software running and the cable connected to
the SOCKETED BS2. (MAKE SURE IT'S NOT PLUGGED IN BACKWARDS). THE NOTCH IS
UP. THE FIRST PIN LEFT OF THE NOTCH IS 1, THE PIN RIGHT OF THE NOTCH IS 24.
PRESS ALT-L for load, SELECT SODCODE.BS2.. With POWER ON TO THE STAMP AND
CABLE CONNECTED RIGHT HIT ALT-R for RUN or download and WALLLA!! THE STAMP
is PROGRAMMED WITH THE MULTI COLORED BOX SOFTWARE. REMOVE THE STAMP and
Put it back in its anti-static pad.. DONE WITH PARTS 1 of 2.. Save the
programming cable or JIG for future programming and modification.
